Quick Guide to Fitting Artificial Grass

Thinking about switching to artificial grass? It’s a great way to enjoy a lush, green lawn all year round with minimal maintenance. Here’s a quick guide to help you fit artificial grass like a pro.

1. Prepare the Area
Start by removing the existing turf and topsoil (usually around 50-75mm deep). Make sure the ground is level and free from debris. For best results, install a weed membrane to prevent unwanted growth underneath.

2. Create a Solid Base
Next, lay a sub-base using a mix of crushed stone or MOT Type 1. Compact it well to create a firm, even surface. On top of that, add a thin layer of sharp sand or granite dust and level it out smoothly.

3. Roll Out the Grass
Unroll your artificial grass and let it settle for a few hours. This reduces creases and allows the turf to adjust to the surroundings. Make sure the blades all run in the same direction for a natural look.

4. Secure and Finish
Trim the edges with a sharp knife and secure the grass with adhesive or turf pins. Brush the pile upright and add kiln-dried sand for extra stability.

Enjoy a perfect lawn—no mowing required!
